Cleansers??

I’ll be the first to admit that until recently I had no clue about skincare or the benefits of an appropriate skin care routine.

Face Wipes

When I first started to wear make up, I used face wipes to remove it (Caroline Hirons would be horrified). I now know that this is not cleansing. The face wipes weren’t even specific wipes, I just used regular Johnsons’ baby wipes. I used as many wipes as it took until there was nothing coming off my face and onto the wipe. I just scrubbed at my face until it was bright red and almost sore!

NSPA Foaming Cleansing Face Wash

I decided to ditch the face wipes went to Asda and bought the nspa foaming cleansing face wash. Nspa describe this product as a purifying daily wash for a clear complexion. Obviously I was sucked in, because anything must be better than face wipes. I generally liked this product, it made my face feel clean, didn’t sting or irritate my skin and I liked the foam. However, there were some aspects of this product that I didn’t necessarily like or didn’t meet my expectations of a cleansing product. It didn’t remove all traces of make up, although my face felt clean there were still remnants of dirt on my face. The product also included perfume which I didn’t ideally want in a cleanser as my skin is quite sensitive and, whilst researching more into skincare I seemed to regularly come across the opinion that foam is not good for acne prone skin!

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Once I confirmed to myself that the nspa product wasn’t doing what I needed it to do, I decided to seek out a product which could help me! I was looking for a gentle, no perfume, non-comedogenic and effective cleanser. I did so much research for cleansers geared towards people with acne prone skin and I came across cetaphil. I selected cetaphil’s gentle skin cleanser for both face and body,  based on the research I’d done. When this product first arrived I was really impressed with the size of the product you were given for the price. I loved the consistency of the cleanser, it was smooth and gentle on the skin, it has no scent and caused no irritation. My face felt really clean, however, similar to the nspa product, after cleansing I still had make up left on my face, even if I repeated the cleansing process twice. In addition, I started to see comments and reviews that some of the ingredients were counteractive to my ultimate goal of clear skin and overall health, including parabens, which are known to disrupt the function of hormones naturally found in your body. Obviously this had put me off and so I started to look for something else.

Eau Thermale Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel

After reading so, so many positive reviews and seeing other people with acne prone skin on social media rave about this product I was so excited to try it! Unfortunately, for me, this product just did not work. I really struggled to mesh well with this product and I truthfully did not enjoy using it. I hate to speak poorly of products, and want to emphasise that so many people have positive things to say about this product so therefore want you to remember this is my personal experience. Firstly, a positive of this product is that it did cleanse my face effectively, it removed all make up and my face felt clean. However, I found that although this product is marketed as mild, it irritated my face and I felt stinging on my cheeks and especially my eyes! I also didn’t like the fragrance of this product as I felt it is extremely potent. As I stated, this is my personal opinion and so many others are happy with it, however, I am disappointed.

New Purchase

I have just purchased the Pixi + Caroline Hirons collaboration Double Cleanse, due to all of the hype and I can’t wait to try it!
