proactiv+ (Review)

So I feel like proactiv+ is advertised as the holy grail of products which will give you “radiant skin”. I was sucked into the magic of it through sheer desperation. We’ve all seen the TV adverts (commercials if you’re American) where the beautiful celebrities, like Adam Levine and Katy Perry, promise us that it changed their life.

So this is the scene, acne had returned after roaccutane. This was so frustrating after months of medication. The other problem was that I was in a new relationship, with someone I’d met whilst I was taking roaccutane, and they only knew me as having perfectly clear skin! I was so upset that it had returned I was wearing make up 24/7 around him because I couldn’t bear the idea of him seeing me without make up. I knew deep down that he wouldn’t care, but I was so frustrated and upset that I couldn’t bring myself to go without. So, after being bombarded by the adverts I did my own research. I looked into the websites, blog posts and other reviews, and most of what I read sounded positive, so obviously I went for it. I ordered the proactiv+ 30 Day Complete Facial Kit.

Proactiv+ Complete Facial Kit

Proactiv+ Complete Facial Kit is a 3 step program plus 2 additional products, which they say are “scientifically proven to clear skin and to help prevent future breakouts”. The core 3 step kit has the key products which are said to help your skin.

Step 1 is the Skin Smoothing Exfoliator. The description is it “contains blemish-fighting salicylic acid and gentle exfoliating beads which helps to gently remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil and other pore clogging impurities while caring for your skin.”

Step 2 is the Pore Targeting Treatment. The description is it “contains exclusive Smart Target™ technology which helps to deliver salicylic acid into the pores where blemishes begin.”

Step 3 is the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator. The description is it “is designed to hydrate, address redness, tone, texture, post-blemish marks, oil, dryness and lack of brightness to leave skin feeling supple, hydrated, smooth and even-toned.”

One of the additional products is the Re-Texturizing Toner. The description is that it is “formulated to refine, unclog pores and resurface the skin for a softer, smoother-looking complexion.”

The final product is the proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads. The description is that they “help to remove oil and other impurities and reduce the appearance of dark marks, fine lines and wrinkles while soothing and protecting the skin.”

How I got them

I bought the kit online, the website it so easy to use and really clear and informative with reviews. You can purchase a number of different kits and you can buy them as a one off or as a rolling purchase. The one off probably would be better if you’re just wanting to try it out, however it is so much more expensive as a one off. If you do decide you don’t like the products make sure you call them to cancel!!!! I completely forgot to do this and got sent another box! However, their customer service was so helpful and I organised returning the unopened package and they fully refunded my money. The website also says that if you are unhappy you can return the bottles to them, even if they are empty, as part of their 60 day money back guarantee. However, I didn’t get this so I’m not sure how you are meant to go about it, as I did call and speak to them?

Did it work for me?

At first the products really seemed to be working well. Unfortunately, after a few weeks I ended up with tiny little white spots ALL over my face! After this happened I looked into it and found that it also seemed to have happened to other people. It also seemed that after a period of time my spots appeared to become resistant to it??

Although the products didn’t really work well for me I initially really liked some of the products and can completely see why they may be great for other people!

Reality of proactiv+

The reality of the products are that they are promoted by celebrities. They will be paid to do the advertisements, and therefore proactiv+ will control the content and direct the advertising to be favourable for them. An example of this is Jorgie Porter. I think Jorgie Porter is so nice, however on TV and in the public domain you can see that she still struggles with her skin (she’s just a normal girl). However, the proactiv+ adverts act as if she is completely cured and now has perfect skin, which is obviously just simply not true. Its the standard phrase of just don’t believe everything you see on TV.

But if you have the money, have done your research, and feel that it could work for you! Definitely give it a try!
